The Others?

There are various non-human entities that manifest themselves to be seen for unknown reasons. They have also been noted to telepathically interface with people either awake or through dreams. They can make themselves to look like anything, even mimicking the deceased, making it almost impossible to verify whether any ultraterrestrial encountered is actually a ghost or an alien intelligence. Traits these powerful beings display range from benevolent to having no regard for physical life. They also often seemingly cooperate with any faith-based belief system, no matter how diverse, often impacting their actions and even their appearance in order to fit an observer's expectations. Regardless of their intent, most encounters with these beings result in increased religious behavior in those that interact with them.
